Swindon Dial a Ride

General Description

These services are for people of any age who cannot use public transport due to impairment or disability, whether permanent or temporary.  They operate door to door using vehicles which are fully accessible and can carry wheelchair users in comfort and safety.  We can also accommodate mobility aids such as zimmer frames, shopping trolleys, assistance dogs, sticks and crutches.

Pre-bookable services (e.g. shopper bus services)

  • Dial-a-Ride Bus (wheelchair accessible minibus transport for people with a mobility impairment or disability for work, education, training, shopping, meeting friends, visiting and many other journeys – except hospital appointments.)

Who can be carried:  For people of any age who cannot use existing public transport due to mobility impairment or disability, whether temporary or permanent

Are these services door to door?  Yes

Which areas are served?  Throughout the Borough of Swindon together with Broad Hinton, Lydiard and Purton.

Wheelchair access:  Yes

Cost:  Slightly more than service buses. Swindon concessionary travel vouchers and National travel tokens accepted but not bus passes.

Trips/days out

Swindon Dial a Ride run around one or two Day Trips each month. 

Day Trips include visits to seaside resorts (in the summer months), local markets and shopping centres, nurseries and garden centres and places of natural and historical interest.

The Day Trips are available to people who use the Dial A Ride services provided by Swindon Dial a Ride .  They are all driven by volunteers, which helps to keep the costs as low as possible.

Please note that a completed booking form and full payment is required  to secure a seat as all Day Trips are dealt with on a first come, first served basis.   It is advisable to ring (01793) 617828 (Typetalk (0800) 515152 / (0800) 959598 text) (?) to check availability of these trips before sending payment as seating is limited.

Group transport services – with driver

 We encourage groups who would like to hire from us to provide their own driver and hire on a self drive basis.

Group transport services – self drive

 Vehicle available / seats: Up to 14 vehicles available (all wheelchair accessible) / Passenger seating capacity varies from 3 seats + 1 wheelchair space up to 15/16 seat vehicles with capacity for 2/3 wheelchair spaces.

 Type of groups that can be carried: Non profit making voluntary or community groups in the local area. Minibuses can be hired for up to a week. Journeys can be for any social purpose – shopping, visiting, theatre trips, holidays – anywhere in mainland Britain.

 Geographical area bookings accepted from: Non profit making voluntary or community groups in the local area.

 Cost: Charges are based on the length of time you would like to hire the minibus for and the mileage that you do.  Please contact us for further information.

 Driver restrictions: Drivers must be between 21 and 69 with a clean licence and more than two years’ driving experience. Drivers will also be given full MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training - a small charge will apply for this training.
